Portwise to Present at Coasts & Ports 2025

Mahim Khanna, Regional Director at Portwise, will be speaking at the Australasian Coasts & Ports Conference 2025, taking place in Adelaide from 18 to 21 August. This conference is the leading forum in the Australasian region for professionals involved in coastal and port engineering. Organised jointly by PIANC Australia & New Zealand and Engineers Australia, the event brings together experts from across disciplines to explore the latest developments in the sector.

Focus on Offshore Wind Port Logistics

Mahim will present a session focused on the use of simulation to support port logistics planning for offshore wind (OSW) projects. As offshore wind energy continues to grow, so do the logistical challenges. These projects involve the movement of extremely large components and require specialised vessels, which are both costly and highly sensitive to environmental conditions. Delays caused by waves and wind can have serious consequences for timelines and budgets.

Introducing VentuSim

To address these issues, Portwise has developed VentuSim, a simulation tool designed specifically for OSW logistics. In his presentation, Mahim will show how VentuSim can be used to plan, test, and optimise port operations. The tool simulates workflows such as yard layout, quay usage, vessel scheduling, and storage management, allowing planners to identify potential bottlenecks and test alternative scenarios before implementation.

Case Study: Hollandse Kust III & IV

A central part of the session will be a case study based on the Hollandse Kust III & IV offshore wind farms in the North Sea. Using real wind and wave data, the study demonstrates how environmental factors can affect quay occupancy, vessel turnaround times, and overall campaign efficiency. The case highlights the importance of including weather risks in the planning phase and shows how simulation can provide valuable insights for improving operational resilience.

Relevance to the Conference Theme

This session aligns closely with the broader goals of Coasts & Ports 2025, which include addressing climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, and technological innovation in the maritime and coastal sectors. Mahim’s presentation will be particularly relevant to attendees involved in offshore energy, port planning, and marine logistics.

Portwise at the Forefront of Innovation

By participating in this high-profile event, Mahim and Portwise reinforce their role as leaders in forward-looking port planning solutions. The session promises to offer practical insights into how simulation can support more efficient, risk-aware logistics planning for offshore wind and other complex marine operations.

Attendees at Coasts & Ports 2025 can look forward to a dynamic and insightful presentation that adds real value to the conversation on the future of coastal and port infrastructure.
