What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Medior Automation Consultant to join our team supporting major automated and semi-automated container terminal implementation projects.
Your focus is on helping turn automation concepts into working terminal operations. You will work at the interface between terminal operations, equipment and software, supporting integration, testing, commissioning and operational ramp-up.
Working alongside our senior consultants and client project teams, you will increasingly take independent responsibility for specific workstreams and implementation challenges.
What will you bring
You have a strong interest in the combination of terminal operations, technology and automation and already have relevant experience within the container terminal or industrial automation environment. Direct experience with an automated container terminal is highly valued, but we are equally interested in candidates from adjacent automation industries who can bring relevant implementation experience and develop their terminal expertise with us. Ideally, you bring:
Approximately 4–8 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience within container terminals, terminal equipment, terminal software or industrial automation.
Understanding of container terminal operations and processes.
Exposure to automated equipment, TOS, ECS, fleet management or comparable operational technology.
Experience with implementation, integration, testing, commissioning or operational improvement.
The ability to work with operational teams, engineers, software specialists and suppliers.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
A practical, hands-on mindset and willingness to learn.
Willingness to travel internationally and work on client sites during important implementation phases.
What you will do
You will take a medior role in automation implementation projects, including:
- Implementation support – supporting the implementation of automated equipment and systems such as ASCs/ARMGs, AGVs, automated terminal tractors, automated or remote-controlled quay cranes, TOS, ECS and fleet management systems.
- System integration – analysing and supporting interfaces between equipment, TOS, equipment control, fleet management and operational processes.
- Supplier coordination – working with equipment suppliers, software vendors and terminal teams to identify issues, clarify interfaces and follow up actions.
- Testing & commissioning – preparing and executing integration, operational and performance tests and analysing the results.
- Simulation & emulation – working with Portwise specialists to use simulation and emulation for testing software, operational logic, interfaces and terminal performance.
- Operational readiness – supporting the development of procedures, exception handling, control-room processes, training and go-live preparations.
- Ramp-up & optimization – analysing operational data during ramp-up, identifying bottlenecks and helping terminal teams improve system performance.
- You will work closely with experienced automation and terminal specialists while progressively taking ownership of defined work packages, analyses, testing activities and client deliverables.
